Michigan Autism Insurance Bills
Michigan SB 414 and 415 establish a requirement for certain Michigan public and private insurance companies to cover certain treatments for autism spectrum disorders. SB 981 establishes State reimbursement for those companies that cover treatments for autism spectrum disorders. These bills do not require insurance for autism treatment through most "self-insured" plans or certain Federal and other plans. They do not prohibit such coverage and, in the case of self-insured plans, can provide reimbursement to the insurance company. Applied Behavior Analysis is a covered treatment if the provider and plan meets certain insurance company requirements. Contact the insurance companies or attorneys for specific information.
